Creamy Overnight Oats

This is one of our favorite “go-to” for an easy and delicious breakfast for busy mornings. You can incorporate this into your Sunday night meal prep and it will be ready to go the next morning for an easy breakfast. This is one of the best make-ahead breakfast options!

Satisfying and Filling

The best part of this recipe is that it satisfies your sweet tooth while still being a healthy breakfast option. A great way to make it even easier in the morning is to divide it into several small jars so they are easier to grab and go over the next few days.

Steel Cut Oats vs. Old Fashioned Oats vs. Instant/Quick oats

All oats are rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, and protein. Oats also help reduce cholesterol levels. The main difference between oats is that steel-cut oats are chewier and less processed than Old Fashioned Oats and Instant/Quick Oats. Instant/Quick Oats are precooked which leads to a creamier texture. Instant/Quick Oats can be used for overnight oats but it depends on the texture you prefer. The cooking times also vary depending on the oats. See below for cooking times.

Cooking time

Steel-Cut Oats – Approximately 20-30 minutes on the stovetop; Instapot 9-10 minutes

Old fashioned Oats – Approximately 5 minutes on the stovetop; Microwave 2-3 minutes

Instant/Quick Oats – 1 -3 minutes on the stovetop; Microwave 1 minute

They can be cooked on the stovetop in water, milk, or your preferred dairy substitute.

Toppings

We added our favorite toppings but many different toppings work to create your own favorite flavor combinations. We also like to add fresh fruit, like fresh berries. Coconut flakes are also a nice garnish. This overnight oatmeal recipe is so great because it works well with many different substitutions to create many delicious flavor options. It is fun to experiment with different toppings and you can use anything you have at home already. The final result is a nutritious breakfast that tastes great and the flavor options are endless!
